All my life I’ve pretty much been the quiet kid in the corner. My parents could walk into a room and not realize I was sitting right there on the couch. This pretty much sums it up. As a teen I was not the stand out student, artistic rebel or misunderstood but charming tragic beauty. As an adult I found my way into a career as an interpreter where I communicate all day long – never saying anything that is actually mine. I am the proverbial fly on the wall, interacting with people who wish I wasn’t there and being a third person in a stage usually meant for two. I witness a lot of humanity and live my life observing other people’s experiences. If I am invisible and forgettable it means I am doing my job well.
If I was a character in a book I wouldn’t even be the best friend. I am not the Hermione Granger or Sam Gamgee of the group. I’m more the Luna Lovegood or the Merry Brandybuck- noteable, a couple of good plot points but maybe not the most memorable. I can meet people numerous times and they will not remember me- it is kind of my super power.
That’s where the impetus for this blog comes from- a need to find and relate to other quiet nobody’s out there. There are a lot of us! Quietly going about our lives, raising our kids, working, mucking our way through our second marriages and generally slogging our way though life. Speak friend, and enter.
